East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania’s Sterling Strauser Gallery will benefit from a unique online auction experience that will take place on Monday, October 12, starting at 10 a.m. (EST). The auction will feature more than 700 works of art, with approximately 100 pieces of Outsider Art included to benefit the Strauser Gallery. Material Culture, a nationally renowned auction house with over three decades of experience in the fields of art, antiques and collectibles from around the world, will provide auction services for this initiative, and is waiving any seller’s commission to those pieces that benefit the Sterling Strauser Gallery at ESU.

For those who wish to preview the auction items in advance, an exhibition of all pieces will be held on Saturday, October 10 and Sunday, October 11 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Material Culture, located at 4700 Wissahickon Avenue in Philadelphia. According to Material Culture representatives, the online auction will be available to more than 28,000 art enthusiasts worldwide.

While art enthusiasts may make bids and view the auction from their home or office, ESU is inviting the general public to participate in a special viewing party in Room 113 of the Innovation Center located at 562 Independence Way in East Stroudsburg. Interested individuals may view the auction live and make bids on premises.  Refreshments and door prizes will also be available to those attending.

According to Bob Moses, director of residence life and chair of ESU’s Sterling Strauser Gallery Committee, the Gallery has the opportunity to receive a minimum of 20 percent (and up to 100 percent) of the final sale price of each auction item noted as benefiting ESU, a decision made solely by the individual consigner.  Moses added that funds raised for the Sterling Strauser Gallery will help to support ESU student scholarships as well as provide necessary capital for the Gallery.

Material Culture brings a discerning eye and a careful hand to the marketing and selling of property at public auction. They conduct many heavily advertised theme, general estate, and single owner/estate auctions throughout the year, covering a vast and eclectic array of diverse material, periods, styles and price ranges. For those interested in consigning pieces for the show, Material Culture will first need to review the item and offer an auction estimate. The assessment is free of charge and confidential.
