Pocono Medical Center and East Stroudsburg University Partner to Tell Tobacco to Butt Out for Kick Butts Day

In recognizing that tobacco use is higher in Monroe County among adults than the United States and Pennsylvania, Pocono Medical Center (PMC) and East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania (ESU) are partnering for Kick Butts Day on April 1-3, 2013! The goal of this program is to help rid the East Stroudsburg area of non-biodegradable cigarette butts.
Cigarettes that are not disposed of properly can damage the environment by harming wildlife and water systems. All interested members of the PMC and ESU community will come together to collect as many butts as they can. The cigarette butts will be “up” cycled into other materials and raise money for the Dale and Frances Hughes Cancer Center.
There will be a cigarette butt photo shoot on April 3, 2013 at 3:30 p.m. in the Sci-Tech Building at ESU. Kathleen E. Kuck, President and CEO of PMC and Dr. Marcia Welsh, President of ESU will join all of the individuals for the photo shoot and make brief remarks about the efforts to kick butts. For more information on the program or how to take part, call Beth Taylor, PMC’s Director of Community/Population Health Initiative and Wellness at 570-426-2305 or Alyson C. Patascher, ESU’s Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drug Prevention Services Coordinator at 570-422-3298.
