Professor at Army War College and Career Foreign Service Officer Dr. J. Sherwood McGinnis to Speak on U.S. National Security As Part of Kurt Wimer International Lecture Series

Dr. J. Sherwood McGinnis, professor of National Security and Strategy at the Army War College in Carlisle, Pa., and civilian advisor to the Department of Defense, will be the keynote speaker at the Spring 2012 Professor Kurt Wimer International Lecture Series on International Affairs, at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 4, in the Niedbala Auditorium in the Warren E. ’55 and Sandra Hoeffner Science and Technology Center.
Dr. McGinnis will speak about the national security of the United States. His lecture is open to the general public at no cost.
Dr. McGinnis worked as a Foreign Service Officer with the State Department for 30 years in various positions that took him to Afghanistan, Belgium, Bosnia, France, Mexico and Spain. He served as the Senior Advisor for the U.S. Ambassador to the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development, Senior Advisor to the U.S. Mission to NATO, and Senior Advisor to the Commander of the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistanwhere he was deployed to Afghanistan twice in the last five years. Dr. McGinnis also served as the U.S. Deputy Permanent Representative to the Conference on Disarmament in Genevaand has given numerous
“Great Decisions” lectures (part of a National Lectures Series) on topics such as The Role of the Special Envoy and Promoting Democracy.
