East Stroudsburg University’s Provost’s Colloquium Series, an intellectual experience that promotes dialogue among ESU faculty, staff, students, and community, continues the Spring 2022 semester with a presentation by Margaret Cogswell, ESU Artist in Residence. The presentation “A Sense of Place” will take place on Wednesday, February 23, at 5:30 p.m. in Beers Lecture Hall. The presentation will also be live streamed on the ESU Live Events webpage.
This presentation will focus on artistic research that is described as “observing through the lens of our current experiences”. Cogswell explored places and landscapes by walking in and around the area of East Stroudsburg, her home in NYC, and the Catskills, and recorded her walks with photographs, video, and audio. Her creative responses were mixed with memories in the form of drawings, writings, and short video pieces. She will be sharing aspects of these journals/recordings during the presentation. She will present how she collaborated in similar exchanges with students in ESU classes, such as Advanced Drawing, enhancing course projects with a unique perspective on journaling. The students shared observations of the new world that we are now living in and responded to what they were experiencing, seeing, and learning in incredible works of art.
Cogswell is known for her work called River Fugues which is a series of individually unique projects exploring the interdependency of people, industry and rivers. For more information go to margaretcogswell.net/river-fugues.
