The East Stroudsburg University Provost’s Colloquium Series will continue this fall. The new semester of lectures begins with a presentation by Mary Tod Gray, Ph.D., retired professor of nursing. The presentation “Community on the Fringe” will take place in Beers Lecture Hall on Wednesday September 12, 2018 at 5:30 p.m.

Dr. Gray’s professional nursing practice extends over 50 years with 32 years as a nursing educator in the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education. She continues to pursue active research in the broad area of addiction or substance use disorders from the holistic nursing perspective. She disseminates her theoretical insights and research findings via publications in refereed journals and presentations at national and international education and research conferences.

This presentation will discuss an ethnographic study of an acute care psychiatric unit and its nursing response to the escalating presence of patients with mental illness and substance use disorder.
