East Stroudsburg University’s Provost’s Colloquium Series, an intellectual experience that promotes dialogue among ESU faculty, staff, students, and community, continues the Spring 2022 semester with a presentation by Alexander Jackson, executive director Brodhead Watershed Association. The presentation “The Endless Benefits of Clean and Abundant Water in the Brodhead Watershed” will take place on Wednesday, March 23, at 5:30 p.m. in Beers Lecture Hall. The presentation will also be live streamed on the ESU Live Events webpage.

Clean and abundant water in Monroe County supplies the majority of residents with drinking water on a daily basis. Between wells, and public water – much comes from the Brodhead Creek watershed. Beyond the basic life sustaining functions of water, there’s an elaborate web of ecosystem services that stem from the protection of clean and abundant water.

This presentation will focus on the history of water quality, implemented changes, and how local citizen scientists have been involved in monitoring, improving and educating neighbors about the importance of clean and abundant water. Jackson will highlight the ecosystem services provided by protecting clean waterways and forested landscape, plus future directions that include tackling the challenges of increased urbanization, climate change, and invasive species. As a direct result of BWA’s actions over the past 30 years, the Brodhead Watershed continues to rank among the finest quality watersheds in Pennsylvania.
