East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania’s Department of Sociology, Social Work and Criminal Justice joined forces with the Marywood University School of Social Work and Administrative Studies on Wednesday, March 18, to sponsor the second annual Spring Continuing Education Workshop.

This year’s workshop, titled Crisis Intervention Reexamined, was facilitated by Barbara G. Collins, Ph.D., ESU professor emeritus of social work, and Thomas M. Collins, Ph.D., professor of counseling & human services at the University of Scranton, who retired in 2008.

More than 75 people attended, including ESU’s Bachelor of Science in social work (BSSW) program agency field supervisors, Marywood’s Master of Social Work (MSW) program field supervisors, both BSSW and MSW field students and regional agency practitioners. Attendance at the workshop earned three continuing education units (CEUs) for licensed social workers, marriage and family therapists and professional counselors.

Lloyd Lyter, Ph.D., Marywood director of the Pocono program, facilitated the first workshop in Spring 2014, DSM5: A Primer.

In addition to this annual co-sponsored spring event, John Kraybill-Greggo, Ph.D., ESU associate professor and chair of sociology, social work and criminal justice, announced that the department will sponsor the inaugural Dr. Barbra G. Collins Social Work Professional Development Day on October 1, 2015 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

This event will offer a day of continuing education workshops and forums facilitated by Dr. Kraybill-Greggo and additional ESU BSSW program faculty for regional professionals, agency field supervisors and social work students. The event has been named in honor of Dr. Barbara Collins and her 36 years of service to the university, community and social work profession.
