The thirteenth day of the month, especially if it falls on a Friday, often conjures up superstitions and fears of the unknown. That sensation of uncertainty will be highlighted in Strange and Unusual and Everything in Between, an exhibit being presented July 13-25 in the Madelon Powers Gallery of East Stroudsburg University.
Alma Barrantes, from Analomink, Pa. who graduated from ESU summa cum laude with a major in art history and a minor in studio design in May, organized the mixed media exhibit. Featured artists include Barrantes; Abby Braman, a current ESU student; Shane Izykowski, a local photographer; Michael Marshall of Bushkill, who graduated summa cum laude in May with a bachelor’s degree in art and design; Abigail B. Oxford of Bangor, who graduated magna cum laude in May with a bachelor’s degree in art and design; and current art students Samantha Peterson of East Bangor; and Nara Strete of East Stroudsburg. Many of these local artists are either current students or recent graduates of ESU.
A opening reception for the artists will be held Friday, July 13 from 4-7 p.m. in the gallery located in ESU’s Fine and Performing Arts Center, Normal and Marguerite streets, East Stroudsburg.
Gallery hours for the exhibit are 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 16-20 and July 23-25. The gallery is closed on weekends. Both the reception and the exhibit are open to the public at no cost.
