East Stroudsburg University’s Student Government Association (SGA) is holding its 20th Annual Teddy Bear Drive this holiday season. Teddy bears and toys collected will be given to families of Head Start students in Monroe County during a holiday celebration that will take place on Saturday, December 7 from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. at ESU’s Innovation Center, 562 Independence Road, East Stroudsburg.
SGA has already collected 50 teddy bears, and hopes to get as many toys. “For 20 years ESU students have been collecting teddy bears for local families during the holidays,” said Eric Hunt, a sophomore majoring in marketing and vice president of SGA from East Stroudsburg, Pa. “This year we are also collecting toys in the hopes that every child that comes to our party will receive a teddy bear and a toy. We want to make it really special for them.”
Members of SGA have been planning this event since the beginning of the semester and have already received donations from members, fellow students, faculty and staff. “We hope the community can help us in our mission and make a donation too,” Hunt said.
Children invited to the event are between two and 10 years old. “The holidays are an exciting time for children in this age group. But, we know all too well how difficult it is for some families to come up with extra money to buy gifts. SGA is proud to have been able to help these families for 20 years,” Hunt said.
Donations are being accepted through Tuesday, November 26 in the SGA office located in room 219 of the University Center on ESU’s campus. Donations can be dropped off Monday – Friday 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
