Enterprise Rent-A-Car is now providing WeCar car sharing toEastStroudsburgUniversity students, faculty and staff. WeCar is a membership-based, automated car rental option that offers a sustainable and efficient transportation alternative to the ESU community. Registered members have access to a Nissan Cube and Toyota Prius Hybrid, which are centrally located in the ESU Police Department parking lot.
As members of the WeCar program, ESU’s students can now access affordable transportation to conveniently travel to off-campus locations that are not within walking distance of the university, nor reachable via mass transit.
WeCar also addresses the university’s commitment to sustainability by providing fuel-efficient vehicles, including a hybrid. A university priority is to continually implement strategies that reduce its carbon footprint. WeCar was implemented to encourage ESU’s students to leave their own cars at home, share rides and reduce the number of cars on the road.
ESU students (18 and older), faculty and staff are eligible for WeCarmembership, which offers around-the-clock access to hourly, daily and overnight rentals. Members maintain the benefits of a personal car while only paying for the vehicle when it is being used. The campus car-sharing program is especially popular with students because it provides a solution to car rental age restrictions and to financial concerns associated with having a car on campus.
Members reserve a vehicle online, then access the vehicle using a membership card and return it to the same location. Fuel and basic vehicle physical damage and state required liability protection are included in the standard rate plan.
“WeCar is a totally automated, convenient and sustainable solution to the parking and transportation challenges that exist at universities,” said Ryan Johnson, assistant vice president, WeCar and Rideshare for Enterprise. “With WeCar, Enterprise and ESU are bringing a low-cost, alternative transportation option to students, faculty and staff.”
WeCar programs are supported by the extensive Enterprise Rent-A-Car neighborhood network of more than 5,500 rental offices located within 15 miles of 90 percent of the U.S. population. WeCar is a natural extension of the local car rental service Enterprise pioneered and continues to provide.
Enterprise hires approximately 11 graduates from ESU each year and has about 36 ESU alumni currently working throughout the company. WeCar is working with the university to offer a Brand Ambassador Internship on campus to market the car-sharing service.
WeCar by Enterprise operates car-sharing programs on more than 50 college campuses throughout the United States and Canada, as well as corporate and municipal programs throughout the United States.
ESU students, faculty and staff with a valid driver’s license can sign up for the program at www.wecar.com/esu. Additional information about WeCar by Enterprise Rent-A-Car is available by following @WeCar on Twitter.
