East Stroudsburg University held its annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service on Thursday, February 7.
This year ESU teamed up with Monroe County Children and Youth Services to make “care bags” that will be given to children entering the foster care system, and Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Bridge to raise awareness about the need for mentors in Monroe County.
ESU students, faculty and staff collected more than 850 donated items such as personal hygiene products, baby wipes, hairbrushes, pajamas, and journals to make 165 care bags. A total of 115 volunteers participated, and students also wrote personal notes of encouragement that will be given to children in foster care.
During the Day of Service event, 12 students signed up to become Big Brothers and Big Sisters.
