The Wimer International Lecture Series To Feature Presentation By Member of Spanish National Research Council

Dr. Francisco Javier Moreno Fuentes of the Institute of Public Goods and Policy at the Spanish National Research Council will be the keynote speaker at the Professor Kurt Wimer International Lecture Series at 7 p.m. Thursday, October 18, in the Abeloff Center for the Performing Arts at East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania (ESU). He will present a program titled “Immigration and the Economic Crisis in Spain: Implications for the European Union and the United States.”
Fuentes is a visiting fellow at European Union Center at New York University. He was previously a research fellow at the Institute for the Study of Politics, Sciences-Po, Paris; the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University; and the European Institute and the British Library of Political and Economic Science at the London School of Economics. He is the author of four books and numerous articles on immigration, health, welfare, and citizenship policy, with a focus on Spain. He has a Ph.D. in political science from the Universidad Autónoma of Madrid.
The Kurt Wimer International Lecture Series is named in honor of the former chair of ESU’s social science department, which eventually became the social studies department. The series consists of semi-annual lectures by invited practitioners and experts on topics related to foreign and international affairs. Previous speakers have included experts in foreign policy and relations such as: Jonas Hafström, the Swedish Ambassador to the United States; Friis Arne Petersen, Denmark’s former ambassador to the United States ; Dr. Margaret G. Hermann, director of the Moynihan Institute of Global Affairs of the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University; Dr. David T. Armitage, former senior European specialist and head of the European Regional Analysis at the State Department’s Bureau of Intelligence and Research; and Hr. Munir Akram, former Pakistan ambassador to the United Nations.
The event is free and open to the public.
