Theatre Department to Legally Blonde the Musical

For the first time since February 2020, East Stroudsburg University’s Department of Theatre is set to perform a live production for an in-person audience. A cast of 20 students will present Legally Blonde – the Musical, April 21-24.

Emily Crown, a senior early childhood education major from Milford Pa., is playing Elle Woods in the production. “We are so excited to invite the community to join us for this fun and engaging comedy,” Crown said. “It’s been a long time since we’ve been able to perform for a live audience and we worked really hard to bring this production to life!”

According to Playbill, Legally Blonde, based on a novel by Amanda Brown and a 2001 movie, tells the story of a sorority-sister valley girl who goes to Harvard Law to get her boyfriend back, and ends up defying expectations while staying true to herself.

“We are so happy to be performing live again! The students have been working incredibly hard to give this gift to the community,” said Brian Hodge, DMA, director of bands and assistant professor of music. “Coming together to make and experience art is a critical part of the human condition.” Hodge is director of the musical.

The production team includes: ESU alumna Tara Coyle as choreographer; Chris Domanski, interim associate dean of the College of Arts and Science, as scenic and lighting designer; and Na’Zir Postell, a senior theatre major from Kunkletown, Pa., as costume designer.

The cast includes: Emily Crown, a senior early childhood education major from Milford Pa., as Elle Woods; Logan Keim, a junior computer security and computer science major from Schnecksville, Pa., as Emmett Forrest; Dana Gallo, a sophomore theatre major from East Stroudsburg, Pa., as Paulette Buonofuonte; Nikolas Hendershot, a sophomore psychology major from Bangor, Pa., as Warner Huntington III; Devyn Cunningham, a senior communication sciences and disorders major from Tafton Pa., as Enid Hoopes; Nessa Smith, a sophomore theatre major from Mount Pocono, Pa., as Pilar; Hanna Srour, a junior theatre major from Grove City, Pa., as Serena and dance caption; Rania Tabarez, a sophomore art + design major from Reading, Pa., as Vivienne; Zaniyah Grissom, a freshman political science major from Scranton, Pa., as Margot; Cerise Whitlock, a freshman history major from Allentown, Pa., as Professor Callahan; and Alana Glynn, a senior theatre major from East Stroudsburg, Pa., as Brooke Wyndham.

Curtain times for the production are 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday (April 21-23) with 2 p.m. matinees on Saturday and Sunday (April 23-24.) All performances are in the Smith-McFarland Theatre of the university’s Fine and Performing Arts Center, Normal and Marguerite streets, East Stroudsburg.

General admission is $12, senior citizens, faculty and staff (with ID) are $10, students (with ID) are $7, and youth are $5. Tickets are available online in advance at esu.edu/theatretickets. Tickets will also be available at the box office one hour before curtain on performance dates.
