Tickets are now on sale for East Stroudsburg University’s annual Zoot Fest, an evening of jazz music honoring jazz legends Al Cohn and Zoot Sims.

Zoot Fest will take place Thursday, March 29, 2018 beginning at 7 p.m. in the Cecilia S. Cohen Recital Hall, Fine and Performing Arts Center on ESU’s campus.

At 7 p.m. there will be a tribute to Al and Zoot featuring NEA Jazz Master David Liebman (tenor saxophone), Vincent Herring (alto saxophone), and an all-star local rhythm section: Dave Leonhardt (piano), Paul Rostock (bass), and Bill Goodwin (drums).

At 8 p.m. the saxophone section of the Water Gap Jazz Orchestra will feature music from the Benny Carter recording “Further Definitions,” which was donated to the Al Cohn Memorial Jazz Collection (ACMJC) by the late Phil Woods, who played on the original recording. The saxophone section is Nelson Hill, Neil Wetzel, Dave Demsey, Craig Yaremko, and Jay Rattman, all joined by the rhythm section.

The evening will conclude with a Jam Session starting at 9 p.m. at the Deer Head Inn located at 5 Main Street, Delaware Water Gap, Pa.

Admission to Zoot Fest is $30 for the general public and $10 for students. There is no charge for the Jam Session. Tickets can be purchased at www.esu.edu/jazzatesu or by calling 570-422-3156. For more information contact email Matt Vashlishan at alcohncollection@esu.edu.
