In April, East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania announced “The Book of Unknown Americans” as its choice for the 2018-2019 One Book, One Campus program.

On Wednesday, November 7, 2018, Cristina Henriquez, author of “The Book of Unknown Americans,” will come to ESU to take readers inside her book which features a story of star-crossed lovers and the trials and tribulations of the Rivera and Toro families. The book also takes a closer look at the men and women who come to the United States from all over Latin America to find a better way of life and a sense of home and belonging. Henriquez will share her inspiration for creating the book and perspectives on writing about a controversial topic relevant in today’s society.

Henriquez will give her presentation in the Abeloff Center for the Performing Arts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are on sale now for $30. The first 50 people to purchase tickets will receive a free copy of “The Book of the Unknown Americans.” To purchase tickets visit www.esu.edu/onebook.

Other books by Henríquez include “The World in Half” (a novel) and “Come Together, Fall Apart: A Novella and Stories,” which was a New York Times Editors’ Choice selection. Her stories have been published in The New Yorker, The Atlantic, Glimmer Train, The American Scholar, Ploughshares, TriQuarterly, and AGNI along with the anthology “This is Not Chick Lit: Original Stories by America’s Best Women Writers.”

Henríquez was featured in Virginia Quarterly Review as one of “Fiction’s New Luminaries,” has been a guest on National Public Radio, and is a recipient of the Alfredo Cisneros Del Moral Foundation Award, a grant started by Sandra Cisneros in honor of her father.

Additional book discussions, which will be open to the public, will be announced for fall 2018. For more information about ESU’s One Book, One Campus program, to purchase the book online, or to purchase tickets for the Henriquez event on November 7, visit www.esu.edu/onebook.
