Two students from East Stroudsburg University completed internships in the nation’s capital over the summer. They served as interns through the Washington Center for Internships and Academic Seminars, a nonprofit organization that provides internships and seminars to college students interested in learning more about government, politics, and how public policy is shaped. Lucie Miller and Bridget Snyder both participated in TWC’s National Security program in 2024 and subsequent programs, before returning as summer interns on a full scholarship.

Lucie Miller, a history major with a concentration in public history from Monroeville, Pa., served as a collections intern with DACOR Bacon House Foundation. During her internship Miller gained hands-on experience in museum and public history work. “Highlights during my summer in the nation’s capital included touring the White House, attending art exhibit openings such as William Adair’s The Golden Doors to Infinity at the Army and Navy Club, witnessing a BBC filming inside the house, participating in academic talks and formal dinners, attending meetings about planned renovations, giving tours to visitors, and connecting with curators from other museums across Washington, D.C.,” Miller said. “All of these experiences helped me develop practical skills, expand my professional network, and deepen my appreciation for how history is preserved, interpreted, and shared with the public.” Dr. Michael Gray, professor of history, supervised Miller’s internship.

Bridget Snyder, a history and political science major from Nazareth, Pa., interned at the Madison Coalition, a right-of-center advocacy organization that is calling for new amendments to the U.S. Constitution in order to limit the size and scope of the government. As an intern for the Madison Coalition, I worked with a team to research which members of congress might support our initiative. We would send out emails and meet with the senators and representatives as a group,” Snyder said. During her time as an intern she had a personal tour of the U.S. Capitol by two interns of the speaker of the house. Dr. Kimberly S. Adams, professor of political science, supervised Snyder’s internship.

During their time in Washington, the students also had dinner with members of the board of directors of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) including the CEO, Gloria Blackwell.
