The university-wide tutorial program in the department of academic enrichment and learning at East Stroudsburg University has received International Tutor Training Program Certification (ITTPC). ESU peer tutors who attend 10 hours of tutor training, tutor for a total of 25 hours, and are observed and evaluated are eligible for ITTPC certification. This program will ensure that ESU tutors are participating in a tutor training program that sets an internationally accepted standard of skills and training.
Since ITTPC sets professional standards of skill and training for tutors, ESU peer tutors will have transferable skills, be able to add their certification to their resumes, and talk about their tutoring experiences in a nationally-certified program when interviewing for graduate schools or professional positions. Peer tutors will also be better qualified to seek positions as professional tutors after graduation.
Faculty who have a certified tutor for their course, will know that tutors are engaging the students in their classes in meaningful ways that help them achieve success. Students tutored by certified peer tutors can feel confident that their peers have acquired a set of professional standards that will assist them with achieving their personal, academic, and career goals by helping them adapt to the academic environment of college, improve their academic success, and enhance the quality of their scholarly work.
