Winners of Juried Student Art Exhibition at ESU Announced

Prizes were awarded to the top artists in the East Stroudsburg University Student Art Association Annual Juried Student Art Exhibition.

Witching Hour, a digital media presentation created in Google Tiltbrush by Blue Walker, a junior from Saylorsburg, Pa. majoring in integrated art+design, earned the “best in show” award.

Kevin Wimmer, a junior from Saylorsburg, Pa. majoring in integrated art+design, earned two first-place prizes: one for Polaroid film piece, Photo Emulsion Lifts 3-2019; and one for a 3-D glass piece, Parquet Bowl.

Second prize in the general artwork category was awarded to Laura Sarria, a junior from Saylorsburg, Pa. majoring in integrated art+design, for Digital Painting, Series 1. Kristen Cappello, a senior from Milford, Pa. majoring in integrated art+design, earned second prize in the 3-D category for 3-D Printed Pen.

Devin Kagel, a junior from Saylorsburg, Pa. majoring in integrated art+design, earned third prize for her painting, Purple. Brendan Reilly, a senior from Mount Bethel, Pa. majoring in integrated art+design, earned third place in the 3-D category for Nuke Helmet.

Honorable mentions were also awarded to Walker for Leap of Faith, a mixed media print; Amber Doherty, a freshman from Matamoras, Pa. majoring in art+design, for an untitled pen and ink drawing; Christopher Cully, a senior from Saylorsburg, Pa. majoring in marine science, for Ship, a 3-D work; and Alicia Koval, a senior from Norristown, Pa. majoring in integrated art+design, for Squid, a 3-D print.

Fine arts photographer and educator, Mitzi Campbell, a board member of the Peters Valley School of Craft who has been organizing, curating, and jurying art events for more than 20 years, was the juror for the exhibit.

The Pocono chapter of the PA Guild of Craftsmen provided awards for the 3-D category.  Other prizes were provided by the Student Art Association.

The Student Art Association Annual Juried Student Art Exhibit, featuring more than 35 works in a multitude of media, continues to be featured through April 18 in the Madelon Powers Gallery of ESU’s Fine and Performing Arts Center, Normal and Marguerite streets, East Stroudsburg. Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, and Friday, and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday.  The exhibit is open to the public at no cost.
