Welsh, Ph.D. “It was great to watch faculty, staff and administrators at ESU work together to tackle clean-up activities and exercise their school spirit and pride. The project goes well beyond beautification. Working side by side, we were able to get to know other ESU colleagues that we may not see throughout the semester because we work in different buildings. We have an impressive campus and we need to keep it that way for the many generations of students, current and yet to come.”

ESU faculty, staff and administrators volunteered for clean-up duty between 12:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. on Monday. Although many areas were targeted, clean-up crews focused on the Dansbury and Keystone Courtyards, the area outside of Kemp Library and the front circle.

According to President Welsh, the idea for this initiative was born during open discussions with employees about the university’s new strategic plan. “ESU employees are keenly aware of the need to recruit and retain our students and they want to find meaningful ways to help. Our campus clean-up enabled us to put aside our titles and work side by side to show our pride in the institution and the students we serve.”

The next initiative will take place on Friday. With nearly 2,800 students expected to be moving in August 22 to 24, more than 200 students representing various residence halls, Greek organizations and athletic teams have signed up to volunteer their efforts and help move in incoming freshmen and transfer students. In addition, approximately 30 faculty and staff volunteers, including President Welsh, will be on hand to help great students and their families as they get acquainted with their new surroundings.

“We’re really looking forward to having the students back on campus,” said President Welsh. “There’s nothing like starting a new semester fresh – and with a clean campus.”

[22,42,58

post-10201","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-facebook","category-news-release","category-slider
