East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania\u2019s junior nursing majors will participate in the annual Harvest Full of Hope Conference on October 8. The conference will take place from 8 a.m. \u2013 4 p.m. at ArtsQuest Center at SteelStacks in Bethlehem. ESU\u2019s students will offer free screenings for Metabolic Syndrome.<\/p>\n
Harvest Full of Hope, an annual conference meant to increase mental health awareness and decrease the stigma of mental illness in the community, began in 2001 at Allentown State Hospital. In 2002, the event was opened to include mental health providers throughout the Lehigh Valley. This is the second year that ESU nursing students will provide the screenings.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis conference is an extraordinary opportunity for consumers of mental health services and all providers, including nurses, psychologists, counselors, psychiatrists, and social workers to come together to learn about achieving the highest level of wellness,\u201d Suzanne Prestoy, Ph.D., associate professor of nursing said.<\/p>\n
Those attending the conference will have the chance to listen to keynote speaker, Christal Collins, Ph.D., Certified Peer Specialist, and a state trainer and consumer for child protective services. The audience will also have a choice of various workshops including: Rapid Recovery from Stressful Situations<\/em>, Recognizing and Treating Depression in the Elderly,<\/em> and the Latest Trends in Behavioral Health<\/em>, to name a few.<\/p>\n \u201cThis event is a wonderful service, and our students contribute to making this conference a success,\u201d Prestoy said.<\/p>\n
