{"id":10906,"date":"2014-10-28T11:48:18","date_gmt":"2014-10-28T15:48:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/quantumnew.esu.edu\/insider\/?p=10906"},"modified":"2016-06-16T10:36:25","modified_gmt":"2016-06-16T14:36:25","slug":"esu-to-host-author-paul-gordon-jacobs-november-6-7","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/quantum.esu.edu\/insider\/esu-to-host-author-paul-gordon-jacobs-november-6-7\/","title":{"rendered":"ESU to Host Author Paul Gordon  Jacobs, November 6, 7"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania welcomes Paul Gordon Jacobs, Ph.D., author of the autobiography \u201cNeither-Nor: A Young Australian\u2019s Experience with Deafness\u201d on November 6 from 5:30- 7 p.m. in Stroud Hall Room 117, and November 7 from 6-7 p.m. in the Abeloff Center for the Performing Arts.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/quantumnew.esu.edu\/insider\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/paul-jacobs.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"newshide\" style=\"float: right; max-width: 40%; margin-left: 10px;\" src=\"http:\/\/quantumnew.esu.edu\/insider\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/paul-jacobs-e1414515038323-148x150.jpg\" alt=\"paul-jacobs\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nOn November 6 he will discuss his research on psychosocial profiles of successful individuals, particularly those individuals with deafness and other disabilities. On November 7, Jacobs will mostly focus on his autobiography and he will talk about the challenges he has faced living as a deaf person in a hearing world.<\/p>\n<p>According to Jacobs\u00a0 \u201cNeither-Nor,\u201d sheds light on how he \u201ccame to terms with being neither deaf nor hearing\u2014 a neither\/nor, an in-between\u2014 and a person with a social identity that had yet to be invented.\u201d His autobiography is assigned to ESU students taking Introduction to Sign Language each semester.<\/p>\n<p>Jacobs earned his Ph.D. from the University of Melbourne in 2009. He has over 26 academic publications and is currently working on his second book.<\/p>\n<p>This author visit is sponsored by the ESU Sign Language Club, the departments of speech-language pathology, special education and rehabilitation, and early childhood and elementary education, National Student Speech and Hearing\/Language Association Club, and the Psychology Club. Both lectures are open to the public, free of charge.
