{"id":11066,"date":"2014-11-19T09:41:51","date_gmt":"2014-11-19T14:41:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/quantumnew.esu.edu\/insider\/?p=11066"},"modified":"2014-11-20T13:18:43","modified_gmt":"2014-11-20T18:18:43","slug":"student-honor-society-held-pet-food-drive","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/quantum.esu.edu\/insider\/student-honor-society-held-pet-food-drive\/","title":{"rendered":"Student Honor Society Held Pet Food Drive"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/quantumnew.esu.edu\/insider\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/Meals-on-Wheels.jpg\" alt=\"Meals-on-Wheels\"  class=\"newshide\" style=\"max-width: 100%; width: 100%;\" \/><br \/>\nEast Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania\u2019s chapter of Sigma Phi Omega, the national honor society in gerontology, held a pet food drive throughout September and October for individuals served by Monroe County Meals on Wheels who have difficulty accessing food for their pets.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs gerontology students, they need to learn about the needs of a wide variety of older adults,\u201d Elaine Shuey, professor and chair of speech-language pathology, said. \u201cThis includes individuals who have pets they love, but for whom it is difficult to get food\u2014 either cost wise, or travel wise.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This is the second year that Sigma Phi Omega held the pet food drive, and they are planning on continuing it in the future.
