The best things happen after 2 a.m. for Brad Lombardo. The senior digital media technologies (DMT) major from East Stroudsburg, Pa., does most of the editing for his video projects while most of the world is fast sleep.<\/p>\n
\u201cI finish most of my projects around 3 a.m.,\u201d Lombardo said. \u201cAround that time, all I can think about is showing it to people and seeing their reactions.\u201d<\/p>\n
During the fall semester, Lombardo had the opportunity to show his work to the team of the Rachael Ray Show and the team at NBC Universal in New York City. Their positive response resulted in Lombardo earning an internship spot with both companies. Chosen out of hundreds of applicants, Lombardo is headed to the Big Apple next semester to take on life as both a Rachael Ray and NBC Universal intern.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s an overwhelming feeling to be offered such a life changing opportunity,\u201d he said. \u201cMy mom, who is obsessed with the Rachael Ray Show, freaked out just as much as I did when we found out.\u201d<\/p>\n
After letting the news sink in, Lombardo and his family talked about the many opportunities he will have as an intern, including working with celebrities who are guest starring on the Rachel Ray show and doing a lot of behind-the-scenes work at NBC.<\/p>\n
\u201cWorking in such a fast-paced environment will definitely enhance my time management skills,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Lombardo admitted that while he is thrilled to enter a world where he will be learning from professionals in his field every day, he also finds himself already nostalgic about leaving \u2018his home away from home\u2019 at ESU.<\/p>\n
Having only transferred to the university last year, Lombardo believes he has accomplished a lot in his short stint on campus. When he originally made his decision to enroll at ESU he was coming in as a commuter student with no intentions of living on campus. After engrossing himself in campus life with various leadership roles \u2014 vice president of the National Broadcast Society (NBS); president of Alpha Epsilon Rho Honor Society; member of Tau Sigma Honor Society and the television production club; and a member of the National Society of Leadership and Success \u2014 he soon found himself moving in to University Ridge.<\/p>\n
Lombardo credits NBS for helping him grow as a professional. The organization, which became an official student club only two years ago, grew with Lombardo from 11 founding members to now more than 30 students who shot this year\u2019s holiday video for the university and are widely respected on campus.<\/p>\n
Proving to be a professional both in and out of the classroom, Lombardo\u2019s professors pushed him to reach his full potential.<\/p>\n
\u201cBrad personifies the ideal student \u2014 he deeply values his ESU peers, professors and staff for all the perspectives they offer,\u201d said Beth Sockman, Ph.D., associate professor of digital media technologies. \u201cIn the end, he makes informed choices that may lead to more work for him, but the right choice to propel his future.\u201d<\/p>\n
For Lombardo, Dr. Sockman and Assistant Professors Richard Otto, Ph.D., chair, and Adrian Wehmeyer, are a big part of his success.<\/p>\n
Aside from his professors, Lombardo said he could not have done anything without his family, especially his Uncle Bob, who helped him fund his way through college and gave him a place to stay during his internship.<\/p>\n
\u201cI know I made the right decision in choosing ESU as the place to complete my degree,\u201d he said. \u201cBecause of my degree and everything I learned at the university, I will have so many more opportunities to succeed in my professional life.\u201d<\/p>\n
Lombardo will spend his last semester at his internships and is set to graduate in May 2015.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
