East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania announced the expansion of its College of Business and Management with the transfer of the digital media technologies (DMT) and economics departments. DMT moves from the College of Education and economics (ECON) moves from the College of Arts and Sciences.<\/p>\n
\u201cThese two departments allow us to leverage the resources that we have in the curriculum across our current majors and provides a framework for a truly integrative college and university,\u201d Robert Fleischman, J.D., Ed.D., dean of the College of Business Management, said.<\/p>\n
DMT provides students with the opportunity to infuse cutting-edge technology into learning, making a creative and innovative learning environment consistent with the university\u2019s strategic plan, according to Dr. Fleischman.<\/p>\n
Faculty members in DMT see new opportunities as they move to the college.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis transition will provide new opportunities for our students to learn and grow as creators of digital media within the context of a business environment, while leveraging synergies between our areas of study to enhance learning and success,\u201d Richard Otto, Ph.D., chair of DMT, said.<\/p>\n
Sheila Handy, Ph.D., chair of the business management department, sees both of the transferring departments as partners that can bring with them coursework that complements the programs within the business college.<\/p>\n
\u201cMedia and technology are crucial in today\u2019s businesses, and in economics, students learn about the supply and demand of goods and services that are provided by business,\u201d Dr. Handy said.<\/p>\n
The economics department already worked closely with the business management program, as they housed courses that were prerequisites for business majors.<\/p>\n
“Students will be the biggest beneficiary of this move that brings synergy between Economics and other departments in the college.\u00a0 It facilitates sharing of critical resources so that we can provide top notch education to our students in the most cost effective manner.\u00a0 We look forward to working collaboratively with our colleagues to make the COBM the best in the region,” Pattabiraman Neelakantan, Ph.D., chair of the economics department, said.<\/p>\n
