Daisy Fried has a way with words. The award-winning, nationally recognized poet will be sharing her work at East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania on Thursday, April 16 at 4 p.m. in Beers Lecture Hall.<\/p>\n
Fried is the author of three books of poems: Women\u2019s Poetry: Poems and Advice<\/em>, My Brother is Getting Arrested Again<\/em> and She Didn\u2019t Mean to Do it<\/em>. She received Guggenheim, Hodder and Pew Fellowships for her poetry, as well as a Pushcart Prize and the Cohen Award from Ploughsares<\/em>. Her poems have appeared in\u00a0Best American Poetry 2013<\/em>, London Review of Books, Poetry, The Nation, The New Republic, American Poetry Review, Threepenny Review<\/em>, and other literary journals. She reviews books of poetry for the New York Times, Poetry<\/em> and Threepenny Review<\/em> and received Poetry<\/em> magazine\u2019s Editor\u2019s Prize for a Feature Article for \u201cSing God-Awful Muse,\u201d an essay about reading Paradise Lost<\/em> and breastfeeding. She lives in South Philadelphia and is on the faculty of the low-residency MFA program at Warren Wilson College.<\/p>\n \u201cIt is a privilege for the ESU community to hear in person the work of such a distinguished writer,\u201d Jan Selving, assistant professor of English, said. \u201cShe is a major voice in American poetry who is able to place broader, societal, political issues in the context of the personal and every day circumstances that govern our lives.\u201d<\/p>\n The poetry reading is sponsored by Calliope<\/em>, ESU\u2019s student-edited literary magazine, the English Department, the College of Arts & Sciences, the Women\u2019s Center, Writing Studio, Kemp Library and the Office of Diversity and Equal Opportunity.<\/p>\n
