{"id":12089,"date":"2015-04-15T09:05:21","date_gmt":"2015-04-15T13:05:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/quantumnew.esu.edu\/insider\/?p=12089"},"modified":"2015-04-15T09:05:21","modified_gmt":"2015-04-15T13:05:21","slug":"esu-professor-to-host-opera-talk","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/quantum.esu.edu\/insider\/esu-professor-to-host-opera-talk\/","title":{"rendered":"ESU Professor to Host Opera Talk"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Opera enthusiast Eugene Galperin, Ph.D., assistant professor of mathematics at East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania, will explore the 400-year history of expressing human drama and human emotions in his talk \u201cHuman Emotions on the Opera Stage: from the Baroque to Verismo,\u201d on Tuesday, April 21, at 7 p.m. in the Science and Technology Center Auditorium. The presentation will include examples from operas by Mondeverdi, Purcell, Mozart, Donizetti, Verdi, Mascagni, and Leoncavallo.<\/p>\n<p>Galperin\u2019s talk is intended as an introduction to the upcoming Metropolitan Opera HD broadcast at the Cinemark Theater at the Stroud Mall.\u00a0 P. Mascagni\u2019s opera <em>Cavalleria Rusticana<\/em> and R. Leoncavallo\u2019s opera <em>Pagliacci <\/em>(both new productions) will be shown at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, April 25, and 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 29, 2015.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese broadcasts have been going on for years and most students haven\u2019t been aware,\u201d Galperin said. \u201cLast year, I gave ten talks under the general title \u2018Why Opera Still is Relevant Today.\u2019 As a result, quite a few students and community members attended the broadcast for the first time. That was encouraging, and I would like to keep it going.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Galperin\u2019s presentation is organized and sponsored by ESU\u2019s Committee Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL) and will be open to the public at no cost.
