\nEast Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania\u2019s department of sociology, social work & criminal justice is hosting a lecture presentation titled Muslim\u2019s Spiritual Journey: Judaism and the Shoah on April 30 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the Abeloff Center for the Performing Arts.<\/p>\n
Mehnaz Afridi, Ph.D., assistant professor of religious studies and director of Holocaust, Genocide and Interfaith Education at Manhattan College, will be the speaker. Dr. Afridi is also a member of the ethics and religion committee of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, DC. In her talk, Dr. Afridi will discuss her spiritual journey with Judaism and the Holocaust. She will address the parallels and differences between major religious traditions and consider ways in which people can reconcile these differences through faith and personal experiences.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe hope to raise public awareness and understanding about the connections among various world religions,\u201d Hooshang Pazaki, Ph.D., professor of sociology, said.<\/p>\n
This is the second annual sociology and spiritually event, sponsored by the Peter Roche de Coppens Spirituality Fund. The lecture series was established in 2010 in honor of the late Dr. Roche de Coppens, professor emeritus of sociology.
