{"id":12266,"date":"2015-04-29T08:31:55","date_gmt":"2015-04-29T12:31:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/quantumnew.esu.edu\/insider\/?p=12266"},"modified":"2015-05-01T13:05:52","modified_gmt":"2015-05-01T17:05:52","slug":"esu-rugby-teams-celebrate-30th-anniversary-may-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/quantum.esu.edu\/insider\/esu-rugby-teams-celebrate-30th-anniversary-may-2\/","title":{"rendered":"ESU Rugby Teams Celebrate 30th Anniversary, May 2"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/quantumnew.esu.edu\/insider\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Womens-Rugby-Team.jpg\" alt=\"Women&#039;s-Rugby-Team\" class=\"newshide\" style=\"width: 100%;\" \/><\/p>\n<p>East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania\u2019s men\u2019s and women\u2019s Rugby teams are celebrating 30 years on campus on Saturday, May 2 at 11 a.m. on the Mary Street Field.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/quantumnew.esu.edu\/insider\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Mens-Rugby-Team.jpg\" alt=\"Men&#039;s-Rugby-Team\" style=\"width: 50%; float: right; margin-left: 10px;\" \/><\/p>\n<p>All rugby players watch out for one another\u2014 the team is a family that you can&#8217;t find outside the sport,\u201d Michael Godfrey, a senior majoring in criminal justice from Hatboro, Pa., said. \u201cYou spend six days a week with these guys and you sacrifice a lot of individual time, but it is always worth it once you put that jersey on. Rugby gave me the opportunity to play a sport in college; it provided structure, and the flexible practice schedule taught me to balance work and school.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The event will include the presentation of several awards including three scholarships that will be awarded by the rugby alumni association, the Rugby Alumni of the Decade Award, and the Rugby Alumni Person of the Year award. At 11 a.m. the current women\u2019s rugby team will play a team of women\u2019s rugby alumni, and at 1:30 p.m. there will be a men\u2019s rugby match against men\u2019s rugby alumni.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI wish I started the sport earlier in life,\u201d Godfrey said. \u201cI am so grateful for the opportunities I\u2019ve received because of ESU rugby.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This event is free and open to the public.
