In a world where 80% of jobs do not get posted, Christopher Brooks, Dr. phil., knows networking is an important skill. On April 15, the German-American Chamber of Commerce Philadelphia hosted an event titled “Local Networking, Global Opportunities,\u201d for which Brooks, associate professor of history at East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania, was the keynote speaker.<\/p>\n
This well-attended event proved to be an excellent networking opportunity for young professionals in the Greater Philadelphia area who share an\u00a0interest in business and relations with Germany.<\/p>\n
Dr. Brooks shared his German professional life experiences. A published author, Dr. Brooks spent time studying and living in the EU while teaching German-based organizations translating and negotiating skills, legal English and business English. He also worked as a consultant to job-seekers wishing to work transatlantically.<\/p>\n
\u201cNetworking internationally is significantly different,\u201d he said.\u00a0 Brooks discussed the importance of understanding the German-American relationship, and said that having a general understanding of any international relationship shows a level of respect and interest.<\/p>\n
Credit to his networking skills, Brooks was invited to tour\u00a0a major, Philadelphia-based, logistics company\u00a0the following day. Representatives from the company expressed their interest in potentially hiring ESU graduates, which Brooks hopes will become a solid opportunity in the future.<\/p>\n
