Cohen Recital Hall, Fine and Performing Arts Center, Normal and Marguerite streets, East Stroudsburg.<\/p>\n<p>The program will feature<em> Sonata for Piano and Violin in F. Major, K. 547<\/em> by W. A. Mozart and will include works by Ponce, Guastavino, Armengol, Granados, Montsalvatge and Cassad\u00f3.<\/p>\n<p>Noted violinist Christopher Collins Lee and pianist Robert Miller, ESU distinguished professor emeritus of music and artistic director of the series, will be the featured performers.<\/p>\n<p>The <em>New York Times<\/em> termed Christopher Collins Lee \u201can impressive, stylish violinist with something special to say.\u201d\u00a0 He has performed as a soloist with Leopold Stokowski, Herbert von Karajan and Arthur Fiedler among other conductors and has recorded for the CBS, RCA, Desto, Everest, Artista, Delos and Quattro Corde labels.<\/p>\n<p>Lee has been concertmaster of the New Jersey Symphony and is currently the concertmaster of the Reading Symphony and of the Merida Symphony in Mexico.\u00a0 He is just returning from a summer concert tour in Vienna, Austria.<\/p>\n<p>Works which have been premiered by Lee, some also in their first recording, include Aaron Copland\u2019s <em>Ballades for Violin and Piano<\/em> with Leonard Bernstein playing the piano, variations from the opera, <em>Daphne<\/em> by Richard Strauss, Darius Milhaud\u2019s <em>Second Sonata; Final Alice<\/em> by David del Tredici, and <em>Concertino <\/em>by Xavier Montsalvadge.<\/p>\n<p>Lee became a prot\u00e9g\u00e9 of Zino Francescatti at the age of 16, touring Europe with him. He earned a B.F.A. and M.M. Degree from the Juilliard School of Music, a doctorate from SUNY Stony Brook, and five honorary doctorates from foreign institutions.\u00a0His principal teachers were Dorothy DeLay, Arthur Grumiaux, Henryk Szeryng, and Nathan Milstein.<\/p>\n<p>Lee holds the State Department title of Official Musical Ambassador of the United States, and has toured the world over 40 times under their auspices.<\/p>\n<p>Lee has received numerous awards, including a Guggenheim Grant, Fulbright, National Arts Club, Artists International, Carl Flesch International Violin Competition, J.S. Bach Competition, Tibor Varga International Violin Competition, the Samuel Chozinoff Award; and the Fritz Kreisler Prize.<\/p>\n<p>Miller earned a Bachelor of Music from the University of Michigan and master\u2019s and doctoral degrees from the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University.\u00a0 A former faculty member of the Interlochen Center for the Arts, where he was Van Cliburn\u2019s rehearsal pianist, Miller has made numerous solo, chamber, and concerto appearances throughout North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia.<\/p>\n<p>Miller has appeared as guest artist with the New York Philharmonic Ensembles in their subscription series at Merkin Hall. As winner of the F. Lammot Belin Arts Scholarship, he performed a solo recital at the Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall and at the Salle Cortot in Paris. He recently appeared in a solo recital at the Sydney Opera House.<\/p>\n<p>Miller collaborated in chamber music performances with musicians from numerous orchestras including the Chicago Symphony, the Lyric Opera of Chicago Orchestra and the New York Philharmonic. He has recorded for National Public Radio, Canadian Broadcasting Corp., Educo Records and Media Rite Productions.<\/p>\n<p>In November 2010, Miller, along with other distinguished artists such as Glenn Dicterow, concertmaster of the New York Philharmonic, appeared as concerto soloist in the Beethoven <em>Piano Concerto No. 4<\/em> with the Montclair Chamber Orchestra at Montclair State University in New Jersey.<\/p>\n<p>At ESU, Miller gave the first-ever performance (1979) in the Recital Hall in the Fine and Performing Arts Center, a gala event for the dedication of the building.\u00a0Attendees included dignitaries of the State System of Higher Education as well as important Pennsylvania legislators.<\/p>\n<p>Along with cellist Kermit Moore, he performed the dedication recital (early 1980s) when the Recital Hall was named the Cecilia S. Cohen Recital Hall. Hired as a concert pianist and teacher, he has given over 30 years of performances at ESU and has maintained a critically acclaimed international performing career.<\/p>\n<p>The Carter Chamber Series was established to bring professional chamber music to East Stroudsburg University and to the surrounding communities.\u00a0The series is named, in part, for Elliott Carter, a 20th Century composer.\u00a0The series has been established through the generous support of individual donors and a grant from the East Stroudsburg University Foundation.<\/p>\n<p>General admission to the concert is $25, $10 for students 18 and under, and $8 for ESU students with current ID.\u00a0 Reservations, which are held until five minutes before the concert, are available by calling 570-422-3483, x. 2 or by email at <a href=\"mailto:esuarts@esu.edu\">esuarts@esu.edu<\/a>.
