\"NursingEvery year, 600 communities nationwide participate in the Alzheimer\u2019s Association Walk to End Alzheimer\u2019s. It is the world\u2019s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer\u2019s care. This year, East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania hosted Monroe County\u2019s walk.<\/p>\n

Senior nursing students volunteered to help with this event, set up information booths and collected survey information to be used for Alzheimer\u2019s Association research initiatives.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Alzheimer\u2019s Walk gave students real life insight into the consequences of Alzheimer\u2019s disease on the person and family and helped them in their quest to gain understanding and empathy in addition to their theoretical knowledge of this disorder,\u201d Suzanne Prestoy, Ph.D., associate professor of nursing, said.<\/p>\n

All those who participated received different flowers that they held while walking.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was amazing to see how many people this disease affects even within our own community,\u201d Carly Heller, a senior majoring in nursing from Livingston, N.J., said. \u201cI’m grateful to have participated in such an inspiring event and to continue to support the association.\u201d<\/p>\n
