Three faculty members and eight graduate students from East Stroudsburg University\u2019s speech-language pathology department attended the national convention of the American Speech-Language Hearing Association during the fall semester.<\/p>\n
Over 12,000 attendees participated in the convention, which was held in Denver, Co. Rachel Wolf, Ph.D., assistant professor of speech-language pathology, and Ellen Pagano, a graduate student from Branchville, N.J., presented \u201cPragmatic Repetition in Adolescents with High Functioning Autism.\u201d Dr. Wolf also presented with graduate student Isabella DiLauro from Stroudsburg, Pa. on \u201cExamination of Differences in Expressive Language Competence and Performance in Adolescents with Autism.\u201d Both of the presentations were based on the graduate students\u2019 theses.<\/p>\n
LuAnn Batson-Magnuson, Ph.D., assistant professor of speech-language pathology, presented a seminar on the “Cognitive-Linguistic Correlates of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus and Rheumatoid Arthritis.” The seminar explored the available research on the inflammatory changes in the brain as a result of the disease process and the resulting presence of deficits in attention, memory, reasoning, and executive functioning.<\/p>\n
Dr. Batson-Magnuson also presented with Susan Dillmuth-Miller, Ph.D., assistant professor of speech-language pathology, on the “Audiological Manifestations of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus and Rheumatoid Arthritis.\u201d The presentation provided details on the types and patterns of hearing loss observed in patients with these disorders and proposed a specific audiological assessment protocol for patients with these diseases.<\/p>\n
