{"id":13596,"date":"2016-02-16T14:06:44","date_gmt":"2016-02-16T19:06:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/quantumnew.esu.edu\/insider\/?p=13596"},"modified":"2016-06-09T09:37:13","modified_gmt":"2016-06-09T13:37:13","slug":"graduate-student-and-alumna-present-at-conference-at-harvard-university","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/quantum.esu.edu\/insider\/graduate-student-and-alumna-present-at-conference-at-harvard-university\/","title":{"rendered":"Graduate Student and Alumna Present at Conference at Harvard University"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Linda St. Cyr \u201915, a graduate student studying political science from Blakeslee, Pa., and Margaret Barksdale \u201915 of Bushkill, Pa, who earned her bachelor\u2019s degree in political science, will present at the Academic Forum Conference at Harvard University March 20-22.<\/p>\n<p>The 21st Century Academic Forum brings together scholars, as well as corporate and government executives from a wide range of fields who are interested in education and research issues impacting the 21st century. Participants are encouraged to present research or just attend to learn from the diverse group of global researchers and experts assembled at one of the top universities in the world.<\/p>\n<p>Barksdale\u2019s research examines whether there is a significant relationship between education and female political representation in the 50 states. Her results indicate that higher education significantly affects the shares of women in state legislatures. Barksdale will be presenting her paper titled \u201cDoes Education Impact Women\u2019s Political Representation?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>St. Cyr\u2019s research assesses whether Common Core State Standards (CCSS) in English language arts and mathematics prepares high school students for their freshman year at a university. Using a content analysis and a comparative analysis, this research seeks to answer whether CCSS in Pennsylvania high schools aligns with college entry expectations and student learning outcomes in the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education.
