{"id":15749,"date":"2017-04-27T13:29:47","date_gmt":"2017-04-27T17:29:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/quantumnew.esu.edu\/insider\/?p=15749"},"modified":"2017-04-28T09:03:54","modified_gmt":"2017-04-28T13:03:54","slug":"twelve-students-inducted-into-national-political-science-honor-society-4-receive-scholarships","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/quantum.esu.edu\/insider\/twelve-students-inducted-into-national-political-science-honor-society-4-receive-scholarships\/","title":{"rendered":"Twelve Students Inducted into National Political Science Honor Society, 4 Receive Scholarships"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Twelve East Stroudsburg University students were inducted into Iota Chi, ESU\u2019s chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha, the national political science honor society, according to Ko Mishima, Ph.D., associate professor of political science in the college of arts and sciences and Iota Chi\u2019s faculty adviser.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIota Chi helps students to identify themselves as a political science major,\u201d he said. \u201cThis year our keynote speaker was Kwabena Osei-Danquah, a senior Ghanaian diplomat who currently serves as Director of the Division for Governance and Multilateral Affairs at the United Nations Population Fund. In the speech, Mr. Osei-Danquah explained the United Nations\u2019 contributions to promotion of human rights and encouraged young people to help this important global cause.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After being inducted, individuals are rewarded with a lifetime membership to the nationally recognized organization, Pi Sigma Alpha. Members will have access to local lectures discussing key political topics, as well as regular national events hosted by Pi Sigma Alpha.<\/p>\n<p>The ESU students inducted into the honor society were Alexandra Bender, a senior majoring in English from Cresco, Pa.; Angela Cantor, a senior majoring in economics from East Stroudsburg, Pa.; John J. Cahill, a graduate student seeking a master\u2019s degree in political science from Pittstown, N.J.; James Halleman, a graduate student seeking a Master of Arts and a Master of Education in political science from Bethlehem, Pa.; Anthony Walter Honorowski Jr., a senior majoring in economics and political science from Tannersville, Pa.; Nicholas Jauch, a senior majoring in political science from Dingmans Ferry, Pa.; Keisha Kauffman, a senior majoring in criminal justice and political science from Hillsborough, N.J.;\u00a0 Brian Lam, a senior majoring in political science and philosophy from Bartonsville, Pa.; Danielle Penny, a junior majoring in political science from East Stroudsburg, Pa.;\u00a0 Nikolas J. Radzanowski, a junior majoring in political science and criminal justice from West Chester, Pa.; Scott E. Semerod, a graduate student seeking a master\u2019s degree in management and leadership in public administration from East Stroudsburg, Pa.; and Mathilde Tank-Munier, a graduate student seeking a master\u2019s degree in political science from Stroudsburg, Pa.<\/p>\n<p>The ceremony also celebrated the following scholarship recipients from the political science department. Kennedy Sheeley, a senior majoring in political science from Saylorsburg, Pa., received the Dr. Anthony Gaglione Memorial Scholarship; Khaleah Edwards, a freshman majoring in political science from Philadelphia, Pa., received the Joseph J.
