The Historic Dansbury Depot once was an important connecting point for the many students who took the train to East Stroudsburg to attend the college that has become East Stroudsburg University. Now a cultural and community center run by Eastburg Community Alliance (ECA), the Depot will again be a connecting point for the college and community through two upcoming events: an exhibit of artwork by students from ESU\u2019s Art + Design department from September 23 to October 3 and a Music on Mondays concert featuring the theatre department\u2019s Musical Theatre Organization (MTO) at 6 p.m. Monday, October 2.<\/p>\n

\"\"The exhibit, which will feature artwork in various media, is being presented in conjunction with ESU\u2019s Family Weekend 2017, \u201cas a way of bringing students and their families into East Stroudsburg so that they can see all the offerings on Crystal Street,\u201d according to Jocelyn Kolb-DeWitt, assistant professor of art + design, who is coordinating the exhibit.\u00a0 \u201cThis is the first time we\u2019ve linked an exhibit at the Depot to Family Weekend.\u201d<\/p>\n

For Family Weekend, the Depot will be open Saturday, September 23 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Regular hours are 9 a.m. to noon, Monday-Friday, or by appointment. The Depot is also open from 5-7 p.m. in conjunction with the Music on Mondays concerts.<\/p>\n

MTO\u2019s October 2 concert will be the final concert of the 2017 Music on Mondays season.\u00a0 Doors will open at 5 p.m. for the 6 p.m. concert.<\/p>\n

MTO president Angelica Ramirez, a junior from Effort, Pa. majoring in musical theatre, noted that 11 members of the organization will be presenting selections from many Broadway shows including The Fantasticks,<\/em> Jekyll and Hyde<\/em>, Little Shop of Horrors, <\/em>and In the Heights<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn addition to the cabaret we present on campus each year, we also perform at several community events,\u201d Ramirez said. \u201cWe always enjoy performing and we have a great time interacting at community events.\u201d<\/p>\n

ECA Downtown Manager Susan Randall noted that both events help to \u201cpromote the arts in East Stroudsburg and bring people into our downtown district.\u201d ECA board member Sonya Cole added, \u201cWe hope that having college students perform at Music on Mondays will serve as a way for residents to better engage with the college.\u201d<\/p>\n
