The effect of gravity on the heated pigment produces a liquid-like quality rendered even glossier by the final application of lacquer.

Lombardini said that each work creates a curiosity about the next. “I strive to find the right balance between experimentation, innovation and memory in a continuous effort to make art,” he said.

Born in Coriano, Italy, Lombardini studied at the Accademia Delle Belle Arti of Urbino, and early in his career was a follower of the avant garde Arte Povera movement, making works from commonly found materials like grass and soap. His work evolved toward other materials, but his use of industrial paints and non-absorbent surfaces such as Formica as well as his technique of letting the color move naturally along the surface hearken back to his conceptual roots.

Lombardini’s works have been shown internationally in London, Shanghai, and Tokyo. In the United States his work has been shown in Miami, Minnesota and Gallery 705 in Stroudsburg, Pa.
