Other institutions joining ESU in this honor include: Ohio State University, Iowa State University, the University of Arizona and University of Kansas. Phi Theta Kappa is the oldest, largest and most prestigious honor society recognizing students pursuing two-year degrees, comprised of more than 3.5 million members and nearly 1,300 chapters in nine nations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOnce again, we are pleased to be included as a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Transfer Honor Roll. Each year, more than 800 students choose to transfer to East Stroudsburg University. We take great pride in our transfer programs and know that they work for our students,\u201d said President Marcia G. Welsh, Ph.D. \u201cESU is committed to developing collaborative partnerships with community colleges in order develop program\u2013to-program and dual admission agreements that students want and need to succeed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Open to all regionally accredited baccalaureate degree-granting institutions, Phi Theta Kappa\u2019s Transfer Honor Roll recognizes excellence and success in community college transfer pathway development. To be considered, participating institutions complete an application detailing their community college transfer programs. Applications are evaluated in the areas of scholarship and financial aid, admissions outreach, student support services, and student engagement opportunities.<\/p>\n<p>Transfer Honor Roll colleges will be recognized at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ptk.org\/Events\/AnnualConvention.aspx\">PTK Catalyst 2018<\/a>, Phi Theta Kappa\u2019s annual convention, in Kansas City, Missouri, April 19-21, 2018.<\/p>\n<p>Phi Theta Kappa President and CEO Dr. Lynn Tincher-Ladner said the recognition program reflects the growing importance of recognizing and responding to the needs of community college transfers and promoting and sharing best practices for transfer success. And, she noted that colleges and universities that provide high-quality programs and services to community college transfers benefit from the rich perspective and diversity these students bring to the student body, and ultimately to the nation\u2019s workforce.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIncreasingly, students of all ages and achievement levels are choosing the community college, not only as their first step, but also their first choice in the pursuit of a quality, affordable bachelor\u2019s degree,\u201d Tincher-Ladner said. \u201cThese students are scholars, leaders, and global citizens, and it has been shown over and over that they do as well as students beginning college at a four-year college or university.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn order to ensure their continued success,\u201d Tincher-Ladner added, \u201cthe Transfer Honor Roll Program identifies colleges and universities that understand the unique needs of transfer students and applauds the dynamic pathways these colleges have created to continue fostering student success among transfer students at the four-year college.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For more information about ESU\u2019s transfer programs, contact the ESU admission office at (570) 422-3542 or visit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.esu.edu\/admissions\">esu.edu\/admissions<\/a>.
