{"id":17854,"date":"2018-09-25T08:45:20","date_gmt":"2018-09-25T12:45:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/quantumnew.esu.edu\/insider\/?p=17854"},"modified":"2018-09-25T08:45:20","modified_gmt":"2018-09-25T12:45:20","slug":"two-local-artists-featured-in-upcoming-madelon-powers-gallery","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/quantum.esu.edu\/insider\/two-local-artists-featured-in-upcoming-madelon-powers-gallery\/","title":{"rendered":"Two Local Artists Featured in Upcoming Madelon Powers Gallery"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Two regional artists who create their mixed media pieces by blending artistic perspectives will be featured in <em>Kristen Woodward \u2013 Paintings: Tom Laudenslager \u2013 Ceramics <\/em>October 1-26 at East Stroudsburg University\u2019s Madelon Powers Gallery.<\/p>\n<p>Hours for the gallery, located in the university\u2019s Fine &amp; Performing Arts Center, Normal and Marguerite streets, are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays, and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays. The exhibit will be closed on Columbus Day, Monday, October 8.<\/p>\n<p>A reception for the artists will be held Thursday, October 25 from 4-6 p.m. in the gallery. Woodward will give a gallery talk at 4:30 p.m. Both the exhibit and reception are open to the public at no cost.<\/p>\n<p>Woodward\u2019s mixed media works combine painting and printmaking, and often utilize found collage materials. \u201cWoven through my artwork over the past ten years or more has been a dichotomy in regard to the destructive and creative forces of animal welfare and environmental stewardship,\u201d she noted.<\/p>\n<p>Woodward is currently a professor of art and department chair at Albright College in Reading, Pa., teaching painting, and printmaking, and courses on Latin American graphic art, and gender and the arts. She earned a B.F.A. in printmaking from Syracuse University, and a M.F.A. in studio art from Clemson University.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am happiest \u2013 and I believe my work is at its best \u2013 when the barriers between approaches, processes, material and even function, become a bit blurred,\u201d Laudenslager stated. \u201cClay has been my primary medium of expression for over twenty five years, although my work is greatly informed by my past artistic lives as a drawer, painter, photographer and sculptor.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Now retired from teaching, Laudenslager earned his bachelor\u2019s and master\u2019s degrees from Kutztown University. He also took extensive coursework at other institutions including the Tyler School of Art, University of the Arts, Art New England and Moravian College.<\/p>\n<p>Laudenslager will be presenting a clay workshop focusing on hand building techniques and coloring the clay surface on Saturday, October 20 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in ESU\u2019s Fine and Performing Arts Center.<\/p>\n<p>The workshop is open to the public, but space is limited and reservations are required. There is a $15 fee for the workshop.
