The East Stroudsburg University\u2019s Provost\u2019s Colloquium Series, an intellectual experience that promotes dialogue among ESU faculty, staff, students, and community will continue this spring. The new semester of lectures begins with a presentation by Eugene Galperin, Ph.D., associate professor of mathematics and James Maroney, associate professor of music. The presentation \u201cCarmen \u2013 Spanish Dance, Music, and Human Drama\u201d will take place on Wednesday January 30, 2019 at 5:30 p.m. in the Cecilia S. Cohen Recital Hall in ESU\u2019s Fine and Performing Arts Center, Normal and Marguerite streets, and is open to the public at no cost.<\/p>\n
Galperin and Maroney will explore the fascinating and exciting world of Spanish music in this presentation. They will discuss the long and eventful history of the Iberian Peninsula in Spain, its rich musical culture, and its exploration by Georges Bizet in his timeless operatic masterpiece Carmen, a riveting tale of seduction, jealousy, and love at its best and worst.<\/p>\n
The event is intended as an introduction to the upcoming Metropolitan Opera Live in HD<\/em> broadcast of Bizet\u2019s Carmen<\/em>, which will be shown at the Cinemark Theater in Stroud Mall on Saturday, February 2 at 12:55 p.m. and Wednesday, February 6 at 6:30 p.m.<\/p>\n
