Taking place Monday, April 1 \u2013 Friday, April 5, Global Week will allow ESU students, faculty, staff and the local community to celebrate the rich diversity that makes up the campus community.<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s theme is Justice. \u201cJustice, as a theme, rises from a genuine respect for people and a desire to treat everyone with fairness and appreciation,\u201d said Doreen Tobin, D.Ed., vice president for student affairs.<\/p>\n<p>The members of the Global Week committee\u2014clubs and organizations, professors and staff will present programming all week that engages in deep conversations about what justice is, what it has been, and what it should look like.<\/p>\n<p>The main event, the World Fair, is \u201ctrip around the world\u201d that will include international music, treats from different countries, live animals including two penguins and a sloth visiting from the Lehigh Valley Zoo, and interactive activities presented by our campus community in different categories: traditions, health, service, arts, and Future Cast \u2013 a virtual reality experience that allows users to virtually visit different parts of the world.<\/p>\n<p>All activities listed below are open to the general public:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Monday, April 1<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cGlobalthon\u201d<\/p>\n<p>9 a.m.-3 p.m., University Center Courtyard<\/p>\n<p>Students, faculty, and staff will stand for a different social justice cause each hour while holding the scales of justice.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tuesday, April 2<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cFuture Cast\u201d<\/p>\n<p>11 a.m.-4 p.m., Science and Technology Center<\/p>\n<p>Future cast allows true-to-life interactions and immersive experiences thanks to stunning graphics, HD haptic feed, 360\u02damotion tracking, and an inclusive feature which allows you to virtually visit different parts of the world!<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWorld Fair\u201d<\/p>\n<p>1-4 p.m., Science and Technology Center<\/p>\n<p>One of the most popular and anticipated Global Week events each year, includes international music, treats from different countries, live animals including two penguins and a sloth visiting from the Lehigh Valley Zoo, and interactive activities presented by our campus community in different categories: traditions, health, service, and arts.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cdisABILITY Expo\u201d<\/p>\n<p>6-8 p.m. Mattioli Recreation Center<\/p>\n<p>Participants can put themselves in someone else\u2019s shoes and partake in several hands-on activities that will allow them to experience living with disabilities while removing old stereotypes about a productive community in our society. This expo will include several past Global Week programs such as\u00a0<em>Disability Simulation\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0<em>Light it Up Blue<\/em>, as well as new information and activities such as wheelchair basketball and training on how to use the Rec equipment with disabilities.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Wednesday, April 3<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cArts Slam\u201d<\/p>\n<p>6 \u2013 8 p.m., Stroud 117 <strong>Cecilia Cohen Recital Hall, Fine Arts<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Arts Slam, back for a second year, allows students to participate in a vibrant competition through the arts as they represent the theme of JUSTICE. Areas include music, theatre, musical theatre, poetry, spoken word, and dance.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Thursday, April 4<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cHate Crimes Forum\u201d<\/p>\n<p>6-7:30 p.m., Beers Lecture Hall<\/p>\n<p>Liz Bradbury, author, advocate, and director of the training institute at the Bradbury-Sullivan LGBT Community Center in Allentown, Pa, will lead the panel discussion, along with guests who\u2019ll share personal stories of discrimination and hate crimes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Friday, April 5<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThrough Their Eyes Conference\u201d<\/p>\n<p>9 a.m. -1 p.m., Innovation Center<\/p>\n<p>This annual conference is devoted to individuals with disabilities and the challenges they have faced, how they have overcome such challenges and succeeded in life, proving that they are not disabilities, but different kinds of ability. Pre-registration for this event is required. Please email <a href=\"mailto:atorres18@esu.edu\">atorres18@esu.edu<\/a> to register.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRelay for Life\u201d<\/p>\n<p>7 p.m. \u2013 7 a.m., Koehler Fieldhouse<\/p>\n<p>American Cancer Society\u2019s Relay for Life is an overnight fundraiser. During the event participants honor cancer survivors and remember those who have lost their battle. Pre-registration is required for this event.
