Jayme Galdieri, an athletic trainer in the department of Intercollegiate Athletics at East Stroudsburg University, presented \u201cBowel Perforation in a College Football Athlete\u201d in a webinar format through the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA). The webinar is now available as a continuing education presentation.<\/p>\n
\u201cA bowel perforation is a unique and rare injury in athletics. Signs and symptoms can present hours or days after initial injury, and while delayed identification often occurs, this delay also comes with a significant increase in complications, morbidity, and patient mortality,\u201d Galdieri said. \u201cI thought it was a worthy topic to present on a national level through NATA. It\u2019s my hope that attendees of this presentation will be equipped with a better understanding for this rare but incredibly dangerous injury that can occur in athletics at any level.\u201d<\/p>\n
