The 2019 Monroe County Special Olympics Fall Invitational will take place on Sunday, October 6 at ESU.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Hundreds of athletes will head to East Stroudsburg University on Sunday, October 6 to participate in the 2019 Monroe County Special Olympics Fall Invitational, sponsored by the University\u2019s department of Sport Management. ESU seniors majoring in sport management are responsible for organizing the event this year, which will feature a time traveling theme. Special Olympics have been celebrated on ESU\u2019s campus for more than 30 years.<\/p>\n<p>Students at ESU organize and execute this event as part of their academic curriculum. \u201cOur students have an opportunity to put into practice the skills they learn throughout their time studying in the sport management program. Planning, organizing, and completing this project is only a small part of the event,\u201d said Edward Arner, instructor of sport management. \u201cThe students are also exposed to the impact their work has on the athletes, the local community, and ESU.\u201d Arner is teaching the class, Organization and Administration, the class responsible for hosting the Special Olympics event.<\/p>\n<p>Events will be held at the following locations on ESU\u2019s campus: flag football on lower smith street fields; soccer on upper smith street fields; and, volleyball in Koehler Fieldhouse. It is a brand known throughout the world and serves over four million individuals with intellectual disabilities.
