East Stroudsburg University\u2019s Office of Wellness Education and Prevention is teaming up with Women\u2019s Resources of Monroe County, Inc. to hold a community candlelight vigil, Shine a Light for Healing, to honor victims and survivors of domestic violence\/intimate partner violence. The event will take place at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, October 20, 2020 at the Courthouse at 610 Monroe Street in Stroudsburg, Pa.<\/p>\n
\u201cDomestic violence has been an epidemic before COVID-19, however, the pandemic has caused a rise in relationship violence cases,\u201d says Laura Suits, coordinator of ESU\u2019s wellness education and prevention office. \u201cIt\u2019s important to note that even though quarantine restrictions are being lifted, that does not mean the abuse will simply end. Domestic violence thrives in silence, that\u2019s why it is vital to be an active bystander \u2013 if you see something, say something.\u201d<\/p>\n
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and Women\u2019s Resources of Monroe County, Inc. works together with the community to highlight the issue of domestic\/intimate partner violence. \u201cOur trained counselor\/advocates are on the front lines with victims and survivors, no one has to go through this alone,\u201d says Lauren Peterson, Executive Director of Women\u2019s Resources. \u201cOur 24-hour hotline has continued to operate throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, providing a first line of safety for victims. Hotline calls continue to rise now that the stay-at-home restrictions are being lifted, and we want people to know that you can reach out, any time day or night, and we will be there to help you.\u201d<\/p>\n
