East Stroudsburg University\u2019s Provost\u2019s Colloquium Series, an intellectual experience that promotes dialogue among ESU faculty, staff, students, and community, continues for the Fall 2021 semester with a presentation by Jason Engerman, Ph.D., assistant professor of digital media technologies, Richard Otto, Ph.D., associate professor and department chair of digital media technologies, Mark VanAuken, a 2021 graduate with a master\u2019s degree in management and leadership), Emily Jimenez, a senior majoring in digital media technologies from Byram Township, N.J., and Danielle Nightlinger, a graduate student majoring in early childhood education from Bensalem, Pa. The presentation \u201cESU Digital Warriors: Culturally Relevant Computing Living Learning Communities\u201d will take place on Wednesday, September 22 at 5:30 p.m. in Beers Lecture Hall.<\/p>\n
The Digital Warriors: Academic Esports Program at ESU will be revealed in this highly interactive event that will include gaming experiences for the audience. The Digital Media Technologies department was awarded a National Science Foundation Grant within the Innovative Technology Experiences for Students and Teachers (ITEST) program. This award investigates the impact of Culturally Relevant Computing Living Learning Communities featured through Esports and gaming experiences for at-risk youth. The presentation team will highlight the journey and activities engaged in before the Digital Warriors camp, the camp findings, as well as future plans for the grant activities.<\/p>\n
Students spend 7-9 hours daily on digital media. The presentation will demonstrate the power of interactive media for lifelong learning as well as career development. The discussion of the living learning camp experience will showcase the findings of three years of work and multiple types of partnerships and stakeholders\u2019 engagement.<\/p>\n
