{"id":21981,"date":"2022-10-21T09:23:11","date_gmt":"2022-10-21T13:23:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/quantum.esu.edu\/insider\/?p=21981"},"modified":"2022-10-21T09:23:11","modified_gmt":"2022-10-21T13:23:11","slug":"esu-faculty-in-the-news-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/quantum.esu.edu\/insider\/esu-faculty-in-the-news-3\/","title":{"rendered":"ESU Faculty In the News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>East Stroudsburg University is proud to recognize faculty members who have been recently recognized for published works.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Artress White, Ph.D.<\/strong>, associate professor of English, received a 2022 Next Generation Finalist Indie Book Award for her essay collection <em>Survivor\u2019s Guilt: Essays on Race and American Identity<\/em>. In this collection, published by New Rivers Press, the Dr. White uses her personal life, family history, and teaching experience as a springboard for a wide-ranging discussion of race in America today. <em>Kirkus Reviews<\/em> calls White\u2019s book \u201cA well-written, powerful examination of America\u2019s racial legacies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>White has accepted an invitation to present her book at the 2022 Louisville Book Festival, October 28-29 in Louisville, KY during a special presentation session titled \u201cDiverse Literature Saves Lives: A Discussion with the Author of <em>Survivor\u2019s Guilt: Essays on Race and American Identity<\/em>.\u201d Additionally, a chapter from her book <em>Survivor\u2019s Guilt,<\/em> entitled \u201c\u2019Facing It\u2019: Of Soldiers, Patriotism, and Literary Resistance,\u201d was accepted for publication in the commemorative anthology <em>Dear Yusef: Essays, Letters, and Poems For and About One Mr. Komunyakaa<\/em> edited by John Murillo and Nicole Sealey forthcoming in 2024 from Wesleyan University Press.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Adam McGlynn, Ph.D.<\/strong>, professor of political science was recently awarded The American Political Science Association&#8217;s Latino Caucus-2022 Latino Politics Best Book Award for his book, <em>Proving Patriotismo: Latino Military Recruitment, Service and Belonging in the U.S<\/em>. The book was co-authored with Dr. Jessica Lavariega Monforti. Books published between July 2021 and July 2022 were eligible and were submitted to a committee of three scholars who reviewed the books and selected the winners.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. McGlynn has also recently co-authored, along with ESU graduate Caitlyn Stout \u201920 M\u201921, a chapter in the book <em>The Color of COVID-19: The Racial Inequality of Marginalized Communities<\/em>, edited by Sharon A. Navarro and Samantha L. Hernandez. Their chapter, \u201cNecessity as the Mother of Invention: Attempting to Overcome the Digital Divide during the COVID-19 Pandemic,\u201d explores how four school districts worked to educate their students remotely when faced with varying levels of access to laptops, tablets and high-speed Internet access. Their findings showed these districts were reliant on state support and corporate partnerships in navigating the crisis. Stout and McGlynn started this project when she was still a student in the Masters in Management &amp; Leadership-Public Administration program at ESU and served as the program&#8217;s graduate assistant.
