East Stroudsburg University will welcome Dr. Rajmohan Gandhi as the first speaker in ESU\u2019s Frederick Douglass Institute Speaker Series on Tuesday, April 4 at 4 p.m. via zoom webinar. The event is open to the public at no cost.<\/p>\n
Dr. Gandhi, the grandson of Mohandas K. Gandhi or Mahatma Gandhi, is a historian and biographer involved in efforts of trust-building and reconciliation. He has authored more than a dozen books, including the biography of his grandfather for which he received the Indian History Congress\u2019s Biennial Award in 2007. He served as a research professor at the College of Education, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and from 1997-2012 and was part of the university\u2019s Center for South Asian and Middle Eastern Studies. Through writing, speaking, public interventions, and dialogues, he has been engaged for 60 years in efforts for reconciliation and democratic rights.<\/p>\n
Laura Kieselbach, Ed.D, assistant professor of English and director of ESU\u2019s Frederick Douglass Institute, says that the speaker series is an opportunity for the community to engage with invited guests. \u201cWe set this up as a Q&A so the audience can really engage with Dr. Gandhi,\u201d Dr. Kieselbach said. \u201cWe want them to ask questions about any topic of interest but specifically matters of freedom, reconciliation, democratic rights, and the divide between the West and the World of Islam.\u201d<\/p>\n
