East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania reports its second consecutive year of increased enrollment. Total enrollment for Fall 2023 is 5,463, a 6.03% increase over the prior year. Bolstering ESU\u2019s enrollment is an entering class of first time new undergraduate students of 1,400 and 361 new transfer students. ESU\u2019s student population represents 31 states and 28 different countries.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am extremely proud of the work done by our entire campus to bring in such a successful incoming class,\u201d said ESU President Kenneth Long. \u201cThis is credited to the collaboration of everyone on campus including faculty, academic department staff and staff members across multiple departments, including facilities management, who helped our admissions team and our engaged students and student leaders make our orientations and other programs very successful recruitment events.\u201d<\/p>\n
ESU\u2019s Vice President for Enrollment Management Dr. Lorna Hunter said, \u201cThe application and enrollment surge can be credited to many measures taken across the institution over recent years. These include an increase in\u00a0outreach and marketing efforts\u00a0to prospective students and\u00a0greater access\u00a0that was achieved through streamlining the application processes.\u201d ESU also offers a variety of scholarships<\/a> to help ease the financial burden. \u201cIn addition to need-based financial aid, ESU offers merit scholarships for first year and transfer students as well as Pocono Promise, an additional grant for Pell and PA state grant students,\u201d Dr. Hunter explained. \u201cMaking scholarships more accessible to students is one way of ensuring the pursuit of a college education can be attainable and affordable.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThe underlying data that comprises our student body is indicative of our mission and location,\u201d President Long added. \u201c44.2% of our undergraduate and 24.2% of our graduate students are underrepresented minorities. In addition, 73.6% of our students receive financial aid. Our primary focus is to satisfy the education needs of our region and we are enthusiastic about our continued appeal to these students and their families.
