{"id":25091,"date":"2026-08-31T15:16:07","date_gmt":"2026-08-31T19:16:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/quantum.esu.edu\/insider\/?p=25091"},"modified":"2026-08-31T16:29:39","modified_gmt":"2026-08-31T20:29:39","slug":"esu-in-the-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/quantum.esu.edu\/insider\/esu-in-the-news\/","title":{"rendered":"ESU In the News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>East Stroudsburg University is honored to recognize the following faculty, staff, and departments for recent accomplishments in their areas of study and for the betterment of the campus and the community.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/quantum.esu.edu\/insider\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Chris-Brooks.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"259\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-10850\" \/><strong>Christopher Brooks, Ph.D.<\/strong>, professor of history and geography, was appointed by Governor Josh Shapiro and confirmed by the Senate to serve on the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission. He is one of the seven new members on the 11-member commission, which is an independent and non-partisan commission that investigates complaints of discrimination in employment, housing, education, and public accommodations, acting as public liaisons to establish policies and resolve cases that are not settled voluntarily. The commission can decide if an act of hate violates the Pennsylvania Human Relations Act, and through its decisions it can enforce state laws that prohibit discrimination and promote equal opportunity.<\/p>\n<p>ESU will be a part of the <strong>American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU)\u00a0Student-Centered Course Scheduling Accelerator<\/strong>. <a href=\"https:\/\/aascu.org\/news\/aascu-expands-a-proven-fix-for-a-hidden-barrier-to-graduation-the-course-schedule\/\">AASCU course scheduling accelerator\u00a0is<\/a> designed to help campuses advance scheduling work effectively and efficiently. The Accelerator is funded by Lumina Foundation, with additional support from the Gates Foundation. Participating institutions will receive technical assistance from Ad Astra along with tools, data, and peer learning to help campuses reduce conflicts between required courses, schedule classes that fit students\u2019 lives, consider challenging course combinations, and align offerings with student demand. The Accelerator offers a streamlined on-ramp, giving institutions a faster way to put proven strategies to work.<\/p>\n<p>ESU has been named to <strong>Phi Theta Kappa&#8217;s 2026 Transfer Honor Roll<\/strong>, recognizing institutions that demonstrate excellence in creating and supporting pathways for community college transfer students. This year, only 275 colleges and universities <a href=\"https:\/\/recruitptk.org\/transfer-honor-roll\/\">earned this prestigious recognition<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The College of Business and Management will welcome Hasanna Birdsong as their 2026\u20132027 <strong>Executive in Residence<\/strong>. Birdsong, the Chief Executive Officer of Lehigh Valley Public Media, has more than 25 years of experience spanning media, consulting, business strategy, organizational leadership, and community engagement.
