A rebroadcast of Dr. Noam Chomsky\u2019s talk, \u201cPublic Education and the Common Good,\u201d will take place on the campus of East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania (ESU) on Tuesday, February 12\u00a0 from 7- 10 p.m. in Beers Lecture Hall, located on the front circle of campus.\u00a0 The event is open to the general public at no cost. Dr. Chomsky, a world-renowned academic and social activist, shared his views on education in society during his visit to ESU on Wednesday February 6, 2013. The rebroadcast will provide an opportunity for those who could not attend to hear the talk. All are welcome<\/p>\n
Institute Professor and Professor Emeritus in the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Department of Linguistics and Philosophy, Chomsky earned his doctorate in linguistics in 1955 from the University of Pennsylvania. Chomsky joined the staff of the MIT in 1955 and in 1961 was appointed full professor.\u00a0 The major theoretical viewpoints of his doctoral dissertation appeared in the monograph Syntactic Structure, 1957.\u00a0 This formed part of a more extensive work, The Logical Structure of Linguistic Theory, circulated in mimeograph in 1955 and published in 1975. In 1976, he was appointed institute professor in the department of linguistics and philosophy.<\/p>\n
Chomsky, a native of Philadelphia, Pa., has lectured at many universities across the United States and abroad, and is the recipient of numerous honorary degrees and awards.\u00a0 He has been revered for his views on linguistics, philosophy, intellectual history, contemporary issues, international affairs and U.S. foreign policy.\u00a0 Among his books are: \u201cNew Horizons in the Study of Language and Mind\u201d; \u201cOn Nature and Language\u201d;\u00a0 \u201cThe Essential Chomsky; Hopes and Prospects\u201d; \u201cGaza in Crisis; How the World Works\u201d; \u201c9-11: Was There an Alternative\u201d; \u201cMaking the Future: Occupations, Interventions, Empire, and Resistance\u201d; \u201cThe Science of Language; Peace with Justice:\u00a0 Noam Chomsky in Australia\u201d; and \u201cPower Systems.\u201d<\/p>\n
