The speaker will be Carter B. McClure, manager, Business Accelerator Program, Research &#038; Economic Development. This is a free event, open to all students. The forum will be focused on how to make the transition from an ESU student to a career professional. This will be an open discussion focusing on how professionals perceive you. The creation of an economic development strategy to expand the bioscience industry and life science jobs in Northeastern Pennsylvania will be discussed. Sponsored by the Northeastern Pennsylvania Regional Bioscience Initiative (NEPA RBI) and co-facilitated by ESU\u2019s division of Research and Economic Development (RED) with Pennsylvania Bio (PABIO), this is the second in a series of four roundtable discussions intended to bring together interested parties to talk about research and testing in the bioscience industry. ESU students are invited to attend the inaugural Authors\u2019 Forum organized by the Library Advisory Committee. Hear ESU faculty discuss the goals and inspirations behind the books that they have written. <\/p>\n<p>The invited authors for this first event are: <strong>Esther Daganzo-Cantens, Ph.D.<\/strong>, (Modern Languages), book title &#8211; Carmen De Burgos: Educaci\u00f3n, Viajes, y Feminismo en los libros de viajes de Carmen de Burgos en Europa; <strong>Johan Eliasson, Ph.D.<\/strong>, (Political Science), book title &#8211; America\u2019s Perceptions of Europe. <strong>Shannon Frystak, Ph.D.<\/strong>, (History), book title &#8211; Our Minds on Freedom: Women and the Struggle for Black Equality in Louisiana, 1924-1967. <strong>Dr. Jeff Ruth, Ph.D.<\/strong>, (Modern Languages), book title &#8211; Urban Honor in Spain: The Laus Urbis from Antiquity through Humanism. The evening will begin with a panel discussion, concluding with breakout sessions where the authors will answer questions from the audience.<\/p>\n<h2>Study Abroad<\/h2>\n<p><strong>A Great Opportunity to Study and Travel in China This Summer and Earn ESU Credits!<\/strong> Our ESU summer program in China will be offered again in 2013. Based at our partner university, Shenyang Normal University, in northeast China, the program is scheduled to run from May 25 through June 19, 2013. <\/p>\n<p>Wenjie Yan, Ph.D., who has successfully run the program for seven consecutive summers, will teach Chinese 1 (FLCH 116) again through the program. Joining him is Ken Mash, Ph.D., who will teach Politics in Asia (POLS 230). No prior knowledge of the Chinese language is required to take either class. <\/p>\n<p>In addition, you will visit many well-known cultural sites in China. They include the Imperial Palace in Shenyang, the Great Wall and the Forbidden City in Beijing, and the Shaolin Temple and the Longmen Grottoes in Henan Province. <\/p>\n<p>It will be an exhilarating once-in-a-life-time experience. You can piece together monologues by cutting other characters\u2019 interjections out of your character\u2019s story. The expectation is that the show will be cast with seven women, all except Marlene playing multiple roles, and all actors will be in the opening scene.
